![]() As far as the song ‘Keep Me Hangin’,’ added Martell, ‘it was too happy and too fast when we first heard it so we decided that we wanted to pave the way for a heavily emotionally inspired song, getting the most out of every single note. Again, we were into a lot of volume and a lot of emotion. We interpreted our own feel if you will, our own style and contributed to the psychedelic scene. We were able to get creative and experiment with different styles of music. ![]() We were the pre-cursers to the heavy rock metal sound – one of the groups that started it,’ Martell said. ‘I like to think we inspired artists like Led Zeppelin musically. A virtual unknown at the time, Led Zeppelin had opened for Vanilla Fudge back in 1969. Paying homage to one of their favorite artists, ‘the Fudge’ recorded a cover album of Led Zeppelin songs cleverly entitled ‘Out Through The In Door’ in 2007. A most deserved induction into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame, along with recording artists Billy Joel and Joan Jett, followed in 2006. Vanilla Fudge again reunited in 2005, this time with all of its original line-up, for a tour with members of the Doors and Steppenwolf. ![]() Back to back reunion tours took place in 19.ĭrummer Carmine Appice fronted his own Vanilla Fudge in 1991, backed by non-original band members and yielding the album ‘The Best Of Vanilla Fudge ‘ Live.’Īt the dawn of a new decade, three of the original members (Appice, Bogert and Martell) regrouped in 2000 to record a “greatest hits” album entitled ‘Vanilla Fudge ‘ The Return/Then And Now.’ That release offered re-recordings of the band’s classic material as well a few new songs. Two years later they released their first studio album in more than a decade, entitled ‘Mystery,’ which included an appearance by guitar legend Jeff Beck. If everybody tried to make it wonderful, it could be a wonderful world. In 2011, more than 40 years since their formation, the Vanilla Fudge, featuring Mark Stein, Vince Martell and Carmine Appice, bid farewell to long-time fans by playing their final concert tour.
